Zaria AKA Louise

I here! Its nice in here isn't it? Great green decoration.
Thanks Pete for navigating us through the interweb trickery!
So I'm listed as Sister Zaria which is a hangover from another blog I have that I guess you can all have a look at now: http://sistersinthecity.blogspot.com/ I do do some writing sometimes...!
So sorry to miss you all at class this week. It turns out that the business of making books is just as scary and manic as writing the bloody things.
See you all for definate next week.

Wow, that's some intense writing there, Louise.
I know you have been struggling with your novel, but maybe you're thinking too hard about it, because what you are writing in your Blog (probably without thinking about too much) is very smooth and tight, and interesting.

I am a bit confused though, how many of the "sisters" are you?

I agree with Chris - this reads as very authentic. I wondered how far it is a conscious Bridget Jones style created persona and how far it reflects the owner? I'm not sure about the protocol of blogging but know about the Liz Jones one, for instance.

I'm also confused about 'sisters' , as I thought it designated old-time feminists like myself not the Bridget Jones generation, who seem about as feminist as Jane Austen heroines in their preoccupation with getting a man.

To me there are two forces at work to stop the Bridgets getting their men. First, men like to thing they are free agents so are attracted by women who seem distracted - by a career, or other interest, for instance. Maybe it's the energy they like, but I suspect they think they can just remain on the periphery instead of the centre of prying attention - consistent with the correct level of loving care and sex, of course. The second, related, factor is that if you ARE one of these non-Bridget women, who you marry isn't all that important - provided he's not an obvious maniac. There are more important things to think about. As you are unlikely to be picky, early marriage is on the cards.

Is this too simplistic? I expect so, because it sounds it.

Hi Sheila - the blog is just a lighthearted bit of fun. We all have our careers and friends and all of us write for our livings so this is just a fun outlet! Yes i think we all like to think of ourselves as happily married - who doesn't? In my case it certainly isn't a preoccupation and at the moment. If anything i think i am too busy and too picky! Don't worry, we may not be burning our bras but we enjoy the freedom that was grated us by those who did! See you at class. x

Oh, thanks, Louise, for putting me on the right track - my generation tended to be more committed, and it's confusing to see the back-lash, men more dominant than ever and women so eager to please. It's very entertaining to read about, though.

Sheila,

You make some really interesting points. I don't think we are raging feminists but we are more independent than the blog possibly dictates. People like to hear about our dating fiascos, so that's what we write about. The name 'Sisters' was coined by myself. I broke up with someone two years ago and it was my girlfriends that got me through that horrible time.'Sisters' reflects the strength of the female bond and 'in the city' is because I want to bring together women living in London.

Men are more dominant than ever because they are not tied by society restraints as they used to be. Women burnt their bras... and gained freedom or did they? Maybe by ascerting our independence, we gave men their ticket to ride. Whether we modern day females are Bridgets as a result of mens' actions... or as a result of having more freedom ourselves to choose, less tolerance and no need to be 'looked after' by a man - I don't know. What I do know, is that there are more and more people single and living alone than ever before and statistics say that the ones that are married are happier. There are no rules anymore, relationships have changed beyond recognition since the early 1900s and this Bridget for one is totally confused by the whole game!! Please feel free to comment on 'Sisters'... Sister Louise.
